TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 18B(2)(b) of Schedule 13 to the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order-
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Employment Protection (National Health Service) Order 1996, and shall come into force on 1st April 1996.
2. The following descriptions of employment are hereby specified for the purpose of paragraph 18B of Schedule 13 to the Employment Protection Consolidation Act 1978 (computation of period of employment-professional training in the health service)-
(a)employment as a registered medical practitioner or registered dental practitioner in the grade of Registrar, Senior Registrar, Specialist Registrar, Registrar (Public Health), Senior Registrar (Public Health) and Specialist Registrar (Public Health)
(b)employment in the grade of clinical scientist trainee or clinical psychology trainee; and
(c)employment in the grade of general management training scheme trainee or financial management training scheme trainee.

This Order specifies for the purposes of paragraph 18B of schedule 13 to the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978 the descriptions of employment (being employment in which persons are engaged while undergoing professional training which involves their being employed successively by a number of different National Health Service bodies) where the continuity of the employee's period of employment is, by virtue of that paragraph, maintained on his changing his employer for that purpose.
1978 c. 44; Schedule 13 is amended, and paragraph 18B inserted by paragraph 103(3) of Schedule 1 to the Health Authorities Act 1995 (c. 17). See section 8(1) of that Act.
