The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of powers conferred on him by sections 29 and 126(4) of the National Health Service Act 1977(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:-

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (General Medical Services) Amendment (No. 2) Regulation 1997 and shall come into force on 1st July 1997.

Amendment of the National Health Service (General Medical Services) Regulations 1992

2.-(1) The National Health Service (General Medical Services) Regulations 1992(2) shall be amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this regulation.

(2) In Schedule 10 (drugs and other substances not to be prescribed for supply under pharmaceutical services), the following entries shall be omitted-

(3) In that Schedule, the following entries shall be inserted at such places in the alphabetical order of the entries there as are appropriate-

(4) In Schedule 11 (drugs to be prescribed under pharmaceutical services only in certain circumstances) after the entry relating to Cyanocobalamin there shall be inserted in columns 1, 2 and 3 respectively the following-

"Locabiotal AerosolAny patientTreatment of infections and inflammation of the oropharynx".

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations further amend the National Health Service (General Medical Services) Regulations 1992 ("the principal Regulations") which regulate the terms on which doctors provide general medical services under the National Health Service Act 1977.

Regulation 2(2) removes certain drugs or other substances from the list in Schedule 10 to the principal Regulations, which lists drugs and other substances which may not be prescribed for supply in the course of pharmaceutical services under the National Health Service Act 1977. Regulation 2(3) includes certain drugs or other substances in that list. Regulation 2(4) includes another drug in Schedule 11 to the principal Regulations, which lists drugs which may be prescribed only in certain circumstances.
