The Channel 4 (Application of Excess Revenues) Order 1998

Whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before, and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament pursuant to section 27(8) of the Broadcasting Act 1990(1);

Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 27(7) of the Broadcasting Act 1990, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Channel 4 (Application of Excess Revenues) Order 1998 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

Application of excess revenues

2. In section 27(1)(a) of the Broadcasting Act 1990, for "33⅓ per cent" substitute "nil per cent".

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This order amends section 27(1)(a) of the Broadcasting Act 1990 so as to reduce from 33⅓ per cent to nil per cent the percentage of the excess revenues of the Channel Four Television Corporation which must be paid to the Independent Television Commission under that section.

1990 c. 42. Section 27 of the Broadcasting Act 1990 is amended by section 83 of the Broadcasting Act 1996 (c. 55) and by the Channel 4 (Application of Excess Revenues) Order 1997 (S.I. 1997/3019).
