The Agriculture Act 1986 (Commencement No. 6)Order 1998

19th March 1998

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland, the Secretary of State for Wales and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, acting jointly in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 24(2) of the Agriculture Act 1986(1), make the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Agriculture Act 1986 (Commencement No. 6) Order 1998.

2. The day appointed for the coming into force of-

(a)section 8(4) of the Agriculture Act 1986 (substitution of new paragraph 5 of Schedule 1 to the Agricultural Marketing Act 1983(2));

(b)section 8(5) of the Agriculture Act 1986 and the repeal consequential thereon (repeal of certain words in paragraph 6 of the said Schedule 1); and

(c)section 8(6) of the Agriculture Act 1986 and the repeals consequential thereon (repeal of certain words in paragraph 11(2) of the said Schedule 1);

shall be 1st April 1998.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 1st April 1998-

(a)section 8(4) of the Agriculture Act 1986 (1986 c. 49);

(b)section 8(5) of that Act and the repeal consequential thereon; and

(c)section 8(6) of that Act and the repeals consequential thereon.

The above sections make a number of amendments to Schedule 1 to the Agricultural Marketing Act 1983 (1983 c. 3). The provisions amended relate to the determination and payment of remuneration and other payments payable to members, officers and servants of Food from Britain and to members of committees of Food from Britain. The effect of these amendments is:

(i)to enable all such payments to be made by Food From Britain without any requirement for the approval of the Ministers and of the Treasury; and

(ii)in the case of payments to Members of Food from Britain, to enable the payments to be made by Food from Britain instead of by the Ministers.
