(This note is not part of the Regulations)
Paragraphs 2(4) and 3(4) of Schedule 19 to the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 refer to the situation where immediately before the appointed day (1st September 1999: see S.I. 1998/2083) the appropriate agreed syllabus for religious education in relation to a grant-maintained school (within the meaning of the Education Act 1996), or any pupils at the school, is the agreed syllabus of a local education authority other than the authority in whose area the school is situated. In such a case that latter syllabus continues to be the agreed syllabus for religious education in relation to the school until the end of the period prescribed by the Secretary of State in this Order or such earlier date as the governing body may determine. This Order prescribes the period as one of 5 years commencing on 1st September 1999.
