The Medical Act 1983 (Medical Education) Order 2000

Present,

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas under section 8(1) of the Medical Act 1983(1) if it appears to the Education Committee of the General Medical Council that the standard of proficiency required from candidates at examinations held or to be held by any university or combination of universities in the United Kingdom for the purpose of granting one or more primary United Kingdom qualifications does or will conform to the prescribed standard of proficiency, the Committee may represent to the Privy Council that it is expedient that those examinations should become qualifying examinations for the purposes of Part II of the Act:

And whereas under section 8(2) of the Medical Act 1983 Her Majesty may by Order in Council give effect to any representations made to the Privy Council under section 8(1) of the Act, and any such Order may make such amendments in section 4(2) of the Act as are necessary for giving effect to the Order:

And whereas representations have been made by the Education Committee that it is expedient that examinations held by the combination of the University of Leicester and the University of Warwick should become qualifying examinations for the purposes of Part II of that Act:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 8(2) of the Medical Act 1983, and all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered as follows:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Medical Act 1983 (Medical Education) Order 2000, and shall come into force on 3rd August 2000.

Medical Education: bodies and combinations of bodies entitled to hold qualifying examinations

2. In section 4(2) of the Medical Act 1983 (which sets out the bodies and combinations of bodies entitled to hold qualifying examinations), after paragraph (a) there shall be inserted the following paragraph-

"(aa)a combination of the University of Leicester and the University of Warwick;".

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends section 4(2) of the Medical Act 1983 by adding a combination of Leicester University and Warwick University to the bodies and combinations of bodies entitled to hold qualifying examinations for the purposes of Part II of that Act.
