EDUCATION, ENGLAND AND WALES

The Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998 (Commencement No. 6) Order 2000

3rd April 2000

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 46(4) of the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and interpretation

1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998 (Commencement No. 6) Order 2000.

(2) In this Order "the 1998 Act" means the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998.

Provisions coming into force

2. The following provisions of the 1998 Act shall come into force on 5th April 2000:

section 3(3)(d) for the purposes of making regulations under that paragraph;

section 3(4) for the purposes of making regulations under that subsection;

section 4;

section 5;

section 7(1) to (4);

section 11;

section 12; and

section 14(3).

3. The following provisions of the 1998 Act shall come into force on 1st September 2000:

section 1(1) in so far as it is not already in force;

section 2(1) to (3) and (5) to (7);

section 3(1), (2) and (3)(a) to (c);

section 3(3)(d) and (4) for remaining purposes;

section 7(5);

section 9;

section 10;

section 13;

section 14(1), (2), (4) and (5);

section 44(1) to the extent that it relates to the provisions of Schedule specified below;

in Schedule 3-

paragraph 1;

paragraph 2; and

paragraph 3.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force certain provisions of the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998 on 5th April 2000 and 1st September 2000. The provisions are listed in articles 2 and 3. These provisions relate to the establishment and functions of the General Teaching Council for England and the General Teaching Council for Wales.
