ATOMIC ENERGY AND RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES

The Urenco Enrichment Company Limited (Designation) Order 2003

  Made 5th September 2003 
  Coming into Operation 5th September 2003 

Whereas it appears to the Secretary of State that Urenco Enrichment Company Limited, being a company registered in England, has been formed pursuant to an agreement dated 4th March 1970 providing for collaboration in the development and exploitation of the gas centrifuge process for producing enriched uranium and made between Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom and the Governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Kingdom of the Netherlands:

     Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of her powers under section 19(2) of the Atomic Energy Authority Act 1971[1] hereby orders as follows:

     1. This Order may be cited as the Urenco Enrichment Company Limited (Designation) Order 2003.

    
2. Urenco Enrichment Company Limited is hereby designated for the purposes of section 19 of the Atomic Energy Authority Act 1971.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order designates Urenco Enrichment Company Limited for the purposes of section 19 of the Atomic Energy Authority Act 1971. That section provides that the security provisions in paragraphs 4-6 of Schedule 1 to the Nuclear Installations Act 1965[
2] (as set out in the Schedule to the Atomic Energy Authority Act 1971, and as amended by section 2(1) of the Atomic Energy Authority (Special Constables) Act 1976[3]), shall apply in relation to a company so designated.
