LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ENGLAND

The Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) (England) Order 2006

  Made 12th June 2006 
  Laid before Parliament 16th June 2006 
  Coming into force 4th July 2006 

The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 9(4) of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989[1].

Citation, commencement and application
     1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) (England) Order 2006 and shall come into force on 4th July 2006.

    (2) This Order applies to relevant authorities in England only[
2].

Specified maximum amount
     2. The amount specified for the purposes of section 9(3) of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (assistants for political groups) is £34,986.

Revocation
    
3. In so far as it applies to relevant authorities in England, the Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) Order 1995[3] is revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


One of the requirements relating to the terms on which a person is appointed to, or holds, an appointment in pursuance of section 9 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (assistants for political groups) is that the annual rate of remuneration for the post is less than £13,500 or such higher amount as the Secretary of State may specify by order.

This Order, which applies to relevant authorities in England only, specifies £34,986 as the relevant amount. County, district and London borough councils are relevant authorities for these purposes.

As respects relevant authorities in England, the Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) Order 1995 is revoked.
