Applications to run pilot schemes

Every application to the Secretary of State for his approval of a school travel scheme made by a local education authority during the pilot period must be made in writing and must contain information in respect of each of the matters specified in the Schedule.
Annual Reports

A scheme authority must provide a report to the Secretary of State for each academic year during which a pilot scheme is in force for their area by 1st September following the academic year to which the report relates.
Limit on the number of pilot schemes

The Secretary of State must exercise his power of approval under paragraph 10(1) of the Schedule so as to ensure that there are no more than 20 pilot schemes in force during the pilot period.
Expiry of pilot schemes

—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), a pilot scheme will expire at the end of the pilot period, unless revoked by the scheme authority under paragraph 11(1) of the Schedule.
(2) The Secretary of State and a scheme authority may agree, at any time prior to the expiry of the pilot period, that the pilot scheme may be extended until such date as the Secretary of State may specify.
