The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 377A(5) of the Greater London Authority Act 1999(1):
1. This Order may be cited as the Greater London Authority (Mayor of London Appointments) Order 2008 and shall come into force on 6th April 2008.
2. There are prescribed for the purposes of section 377A of the Greater London Authority Act (the Mayor´s duty to exercise certain powers of appointment) the descriptions of appointment specified in the first column of the Schedule in the case of the bodies shown opposite them in the second column.

This Order prescribes appointments to be made by the Mayor of London to three bodies: the London based Regional Council of the Arts Council of England; the London regional committee or panel of the English Sports Council and Museums Libraries and Archives London. Each of the appointments prescribed by this Order will be subject to section 377A of the Greater London Authority Act 1999 so that if a prescribed body requests the Mayor to exercise the power to make a prescribed appointment, he must do so as soon as reasonably possible after he receives the request. The prescribed appointments in respect of the London based Regional Council of the Arts Council of England are the Chair of the Council and four other Council members. The prescribed appointments in respect of the London regional committee or panel of the English Sports Council are the Chair of the committee or panel and four committee or panel members. In respect of Museums Libraries and Archives London, the prescribed appointments are the Chair of the Board of Trustees and one other Trustee.
