(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order increases the maximum compensation that the Council for Licensed Conveyancers may direct a licensed conveyancer to pay his client for inadequate professional services from £5,000 to £15,000, by substituting that figure in the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990 (c. 41). It revokes the Licensed Conveyancers (Compensation for Inadequate Professional Services) Order 2000 which increased the maximum compensation from £1,000 to £5,000.
1990 c. 41. Paragraph 16(1) was amended by the Licensed Conveyancers (Compensation for Inadequate Professional Services) Order 2000 (S.I. 2000/643) which for the figure "£1,000" substituted the figure "£5,000". In paragraph 16(2) the words "Secretary of State" were substituted by the Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs Order 2003 (S.I. 2003/1887), Schedule 2 paragraph 8(1)(d). Paragraph 16 will be repealed by the Legal Services Act 2007 (c. 29); see paragraph 100(e) of Schedule 21 to that Act. Back [1]
