The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 22 and 42(6) of the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998(1):
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Student Support) (European Institutions) (Amendment) Regulations 2009 and come into force on 1st September 2009.
2. The Education (Student Support) (European Institutions) (No.2) Regulations 2006(2) are amended as follows–
(a) in regulation 17(3), for "27,115 euro" substitute "28,200 euro";
(b) in regulation 19(4), for "6,000 euro" substitute "5,000 euro if studying at Natolin campus, Poland and 7,000 euro if studying at Bruges campus, Belgium".
3. In the Schedule to the Education (Student Support) (European Institutions) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2008(3) in the entry for Regulation 18(3), for "11,378 euro" substitute "13,450 euro".

These Regulations amend the Education (Student Support) (European Institutions) (No 2) Regulations 2006 ("the Principal Regulations") and the Education (Student Support) (European Institutions) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2008 ("the 2008 Regulations"). The Principal Regulations provide for support for eligible students taking designated higher education courses at Bologna Center, the College of Europe or the European University Institute in respect of an academic year beginning on or after 1st September 2007. The Schedule to the 2008 Regulations sets out the increase in the amounts of support payable to eligible students for the academic years beginning on or after 1st September 2009. These Regulations, the Principal Regulations and the 2008 Regulations apply to England only.
Regulation 2(a) increases the maximum amount of grant payable to eligible students in relation to fees payable at the Bologna Center.
Regulation 2(b) amends the amount of grant payable for board and lodging to a College of Europe student. The maximum amount payable is dependent upon which campus the student attends.
Regulation 3 increases the maximum amount of grant payable to eligible students in relation to fees payable at the College of Europe.
An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as it has no impact on business, charities or voluntary bodies. The impact on the public sector is minimal.
