The Secretary of State is a Minister designated for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(1) in relation to the regulation and control of classification, packaging and labelling of dangerous substances and preparations(2).
In accordance with section 11(5) of the Consumer Protection Act 1987(3) the Secretary of State has consulted such organisations as appear to him to be representative of interests substantially affected by these Regulations and such other persons as he considers appropriate in accordance with section 11(5) of the Consumer Protection Act 1987.
The Secretary of State makes these Regulations insofar as they relate to the repeal of the Child Resistant Packaging and Tactile Danger Warnings (Safety) (Revocation) Regulations 1992(4) in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 and in all other respects, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Product Safety (Revocation) Regulations 2012 and come into force on 1st October 2012.
2. The instruments listed in the schedule are revoked.

These Regulations revoke the instruments listed in the schedule.
The Child Resistant Packaging and Tactile Danger Warnings (Safety) (Revocation) Regulations 1992 (S.I. 1992/2620) revoked The Child Resistant Packaging and Tactile Danger Warnings (Safety) Regulations 1992 (S.I. 1992/2006) which implemented two European directives regulating certain types of reclosable packaging.
The remaining instruments listed in the schedule regulated the safety of products.
A full regulatory impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen. The Explanatory Memorandum which accompanies this instrument is available alongside a copy of the instrument itself, at: www.legislation.gov.uk.

S.I. 1972/1957 was made under the Consumer Protection Act 1961 and on the repeal of that Act by the Consumer Protection Act 1987 (1987 c.43) continued in force with modification by virtue of Article 6 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 (Commencement No 1) Order 1987 (S.I. 1987/1680).
S.I. 1976/2 was made under the Consumer Protection Act 1961 and on the repeal of that Act by the Consumer Protection Act 1987 (1987 c.43) continued in force with modification by virtue of Article 6 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 (Commencement No 1) Order 1987 (S.I. 1987/1680).
S.I. 1984/1802 was made under section 1(4) of the Consumer Safety Act 1978 and have effect as if they were made under section 11 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 by virtue of section 17(2)(b) of the Interpretation Act 1978 (1978 c.30).
S.I. 1987/1337 was made under section 1(4) of the Consumer Safety Act 1978 and have effect as if they were made under section 11 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 by virtue of section 17(2)(b) of the Interpretation Act 1978 (1978 c.30).
Regulation 3 of S.I. 1984/1802 was substituted by regulation 2 of the Asbestos Products (Safety) (Amendment) Regulations (S.I. 1987/1979) with effect from 1st January 1988.

S.I. 1995/1629 Regulations 1(3) and 4(2) are revoked as a consequence of the revocation of S.I. 1989/149 and S.I. 1991/2693.
