The M1 Motorway (Junction 19 Improvement) (M6 Motorway and Connecting Roads) Scheme 2013

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Scheme in exercise of powers conferred by sections 16, 17 and 19 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2) and(3):

1.  This Scheme may be cited as the M1 Motorway (Junction 19 Improvement) (M6 Motorway and Connecting Roads) Scheme 2013 and shall come into force on 29th August 2013.

2.  In this Scheme:

(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway:

(2) (a) "connecting road" means a special road along a route described in the Schedule 2 to this Scheme;

(b)"the Motorway" means a special road along a route described in Schedule 1 to this Scheme;

(c)"the plan" means the plan folio numbered HA 16/MP/015, containing a site plan bound and numbered 1, marked "The M1 Motorway (Junction 19 Improvement) (M6 Motorway and Connecting Roads) Scheme 2013", signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at Document Deposit Service, Communities and Local Government, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA; and

(d)"the special roads" means the Motorway and each connecting road.

3.  The Secretary of State is authorised to provide the special roads for the exclusive use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.

4.  The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.

5.  Each of the special roads shall become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

Article 2(2)(b)

SCHEDULE 1ROUTES OF THE MOTORWAY

The route of the motorway is about 1.93 kilometres in length, from the point on the plan marked A on the M6 Motorway, about 270 metres west of the centre of the existing M6 Bridge over K7304 Shawell Lane at Catthorpe in the County of Leicestershire, easterly to the point on the plan marked B on the existing A14 Trunk Road, about 878 metres west of the centre of the existing River Avon bridge.

SCHEDULE 2ROUTES OF THE CONNECTING ROADS

The routes of the slip roads are as follows:

Junction with M1 Motorway at Catthorpe

A route from the southbound carriageway of the Motorway which the Secretary of State proposes to construct at Catthorpe to the southbound carriageway of the M1 Motorway the special road along this route being given the number 1 on the plan.

2

Junction with M1 Motorway at Catthorpe

A route from the northbound carriageway of the M1 Motorway to the northbound carriageway of the Motorway which the Secretary of State proposes to construct at Catthorpe the special road along this route being given the number 2 on the plan.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order authorises the construction of a new length of M6 motorway to provide a route to connect with the A14 Trunk Road and the construction of the new connecting slip roads between the new southbound carriageway of the M6 and the existing southbound carriageway of the M1 and between the existing northbound carriageway of the M1 and the new northbound carriageway of the M6.
