The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by section 10 and section 41 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:

1. This Order may be cited as The A61 Trunk Road (A1(M) Junction 50, Baldersby Interchange) (Trunking) Order 2013 and shall come into force on 1st April 2013.

2. In this Order "the plan" means the plan numbered HA 10/NDD/003, marked "The A61 Trunk Road (A1(M) Junction 50, Baldersby Interchange) (Trunking) Order 2013", signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at Communities and Local Government, Deposited Document Services, Room F13, Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex, TN37 7GA.

3. The lengths of the highways described in the Schedule to this Order shall become trunk road from the date when this Order comes into force.

SCHEDULELENGTHS OF HIGHWAYS BECOMING TRUNK ROAD

The lengths of the highways becoming trunk road are the A61 eastern and western roundabouts and the length of the A61, a distance of 212 metres, that connects these roundabouts at Junction 50 of the A1(M) Motorway (Baldersby Interchange), in the District of Harrogate in the County of North Yorkshire (as shown by the hatching on the Plan).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

The purpose of the Order is to authorise the Secretary of State to impose trunk road status on the lengths of highways described in the Schedule to this Order.

Two new roundabouts have been constructed on the A61 on either side of the A1(M) Motorway at Junction 50 (Baldersby Interchange), which together form a -�dumbbell roundabout' arrangement at this grade separated junction over the A1(M). In order to take responsibility for managing and maintaining the entire Baldersby Interchange, the Secretary of State will become the highway authority for the highways described in the Schedule to this Order.
