The Police Pensions (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2014

The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1 of the Police Pensions Act 1976(1).

In accordance with section 1(1) of that Act, the Treasury(2) have consented to the making of these Regulations and the Secretary of State has consulted with the Police Negotiating Board for the United Kingdom(3).

Citation, commencement and extent

1.  (1)  These Regulations may be cited as the Police Pensions (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2014 and shall come into force on 1st April 2014.

(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales.

Amendment to the Police Pensions Regulations 1987

2.  (1)  Regulation G2(1) of the Police Pensions Regulations 1987(4) (pension contribution payable by regular policeman) is amended as follows.

(2) In sub-paragraph (a)-

(a)in paragraph (i), for "10 per cent" substitute "10.75 per cent";

(b)in paragraph (ii), for "13.5 per cent" substitute "14.25 per cent".

(3) In sub-paragraph (b)-

(a)in paragraph (i), for "10.5 per cent" substitute "11.55 per cent";

(b)in paragraph (ii), for "14 per cent" substitute "15.05 per cent".

Amendment to the Police Pensions Regulations 2006

3.  (1)  Regulation 7(1) of the Police Pensions Regulations 2006(5) (pension contributions payable by regular police officers) is amended as follows.

(2) In sub-paragraph (a)-

(a)in paragraph (i), for "7.2 per cent" substitute "7.5 per cent";

(b)in paragraph (ii), for "10.7 per cent" substitute "11 per cent".

(3) In sub-paragraph (b)-

(a)in paragraph (i), for "8 per cent" substitute "8.55 per cent";

(b)in paragraph (ii), for "11.5 per cent", substitute "12.05 per cent".

(4) In sub-paragraph (c)-

(a)in paragraph (i), for "8.5 per cent" substitute "9.25 per cent";

(b)in paragraph (ii), for "12 per cent" substitute "12.75 per cent".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Police Pensions Regulations 1987 and the Police Pensions Regulations 2006 in order to increase the rates of contribution payable by members of the police pension schemes governed by those Regulations.

The functions of the Minister for the Civil Service were transferred to the Treasury by the Transfer of Functions (Minister for the Civil Service and Treasury) Order 1981 (S.I. 1981/1670).
