I, Dermot Ahern, Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 11 and 12 of No. 46 of 1947 ), and section 3(2) of No. 37 of 1979 ) as adapted by No. 40 of 1983 ) and the Marine and Natural Resources (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 307 of 2002 ) hereby make the following Regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Safe Manning, Hours of Work and Watchkeeping) (Amendment) Regulations 2002. 2. The Merchant Shipping (Safe Manning, Hours of Work and Watchkeeping) Regulations 1998 ( S.I. No. 551 of 1998 ) are hereby amended as follows: |

(1) In regulation 2(1) the following definition shall be inserted: |
||||||||
“‘International Voyage’ means a voyage from a port in one State to a port in another State;” |
||||||||
(2) In regulation 5(1) after “500 GT or more” the following shall be inserted: |
||||||||
“and to all passenger ships engaged on international voyages”. |

The Merchant Shipping (Safe Manning, Hours of Work and Watchkeeping) Regulations 1998 ( S.I. No. 551 of 1998 ) are amended in order to include a definition of “international voyage” and to allow for a change in wording in Regulation 5(1), which extends the application of Regulation 5 (Safe Manning Document) to passenger ships on international voyages. |
