I, Joe Walsh, Minister for Agriculture and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 ( No. 27 of 1972 ), and for the purpose of giving effect to Articles 11 to 24 of the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EC) No. 1760/2000 of 17 July 20001 and Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1825/2000 of 25 August 20002 , hereby make the following regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Labelling of Beef and Beef Products)(Amendment) Regulations, 2002. 2. The European Communities (Labelling of Beef and Beef Products) Regulations 2000 ( S.I. No. 435 of 2000 ) are amended by -- |

(a) substituting for Regulation 15 - |

“15. An offence under these Regulations may be prosecuted by -- |
||||||||
(a) the Minister, |
||||||||
(b) the local authority in whose functional area the offence is committed, or |
||||||||
(c) the health board in whose functional area the offence is committed.”. |
||||||||
(b) substituting “€ 2,500” for “£1,500” in Regulation 13. |

These Regulations provide for the prosecution of offences under the European Communities (Labelling of Beef and Beef Products) Regulations 2000 ( S.I. No. 435 of 2000 ) by the Minister, local authority or health board and increase the maximum fine on conviction to € 2,500. |
