I, MICHEÁL MARTIN, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 ( No. 27 of 1972 ) and for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive 89/617/EEC of 27 November 19891 , hereby make the following Regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Units of Measurement) (Amendment) Regulations 2004. 2. In these Regulations-- |

“Principal Regulations” mean the European Communities (Units of Measurement) Regulations 1992 ( S.I. No. 255 of 1992 ); |

“Regulations of 2002” mean the European Communities (Units of Measurement) (Amendment) Regulations 2002 ( S.I. No. 619 of 2002 ). 3. Regulation 4(2) of the Principal Regulations is amended by substituting for paragraph (e) (inserted by the Regulations of 2002) the following: |

“(e) for the specific field of application set out in Schedule 6, the units of measurement listed therein may be used until 31 January 2005 and shall not be used thereafter, and”. |

These Regulations provide for a further extension of the time period during which conversion of road speed measurement signs to units of the metric system may be carried out. |
