ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 2004 (COMMENCEMENT) (PARTS 1 AND 2 AND SECTIONS 27 AND 32) ORDER 2005.

I, MARTIN CULLEN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1(2) of the Road Traffic Act 2004 (No. 44 of 2004), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Road Trafic Act 2004 (Commencement) (Parts 1 and 2 and sections 27 and 32) Order 2005.

2. The day fixed, on which Parts 1 and 2 and sections 27 and 32 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 (No. 44 of 2004) come into operation, is 20 January 2005.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

This Order brings into operation certain provisions of the Road Traffic Act 2004 (No. 44 of 2004) to support the introduction on public roads speed limit structures expressed in metric values from 20 January 2005, to grant exemptions from specified requirements under the Road Traffic Acts to drivers of emergency service vehicles and to provide a new definition of the meaning of ‘registered owner’ of a mechanically propelled vehicle under the Road Traffic Act 1961 .
