The Scottish Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred upon themby section 216(2) of the Education Reform Act 1988[1], herebymake the following Order:
Citation, commencement and extent
1.
This Order may be cited as the Education (Listed Bodies) Order 2000,shall come into force on 25th September 2000 and shall extend to Scotlandonly.
Designated bodies
2.
The bodies which are specified in the Schedule to this Order compriseall those bodies which appear to the Scottish Ministers to fall withinsection 216(3) of the Education Reform Act 1988.
Revocation
3.
The Education (Listed Bodies) Order 1999[2] is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order lists the name of each body which is not a recognised bodywithin section 214(2)(a) or (b) of the Education Reform Act 1988
but which either-
(a) provides any course which is in preparation for a degree to be grantedby such a recognised body and is approved by or on behalf of that body; or
(b) is a constituent college, school, hall or other institution of auniversity which is such a recognised body.
Recognised bodies are universities, colleges or other bodies which areauthorised by Royal Charter or by or under Act of Parliament to grantdegrees and other bodies for the time being permitted by these bodies toact on their behalf in the granting of degrees.
Such degrees are "recognised awards" and section 214(1) of theAct, which makes it an offence to grant or issue any invitation relating tocertain unrecognised degrees and awards, does not apply to them.
The Order updates and replaces the list of bodies contained in theEducation (Listed Bodies) Order 1999[3] which is revoked. Itomits a number of institutions previously within the list, which have beenauthorised to award degrees under section 76 of the Further and HigherEducation Act 1992[4], and adds other institutions.
